Young Asian women are far more comfortable in their skin than my generation ever was. Much as our community would want us to believe that we are different from other races because, somehow, we are 'different' and more 'moral', this is hogwash.
I was constantly subjected to this barrage of brainwashing when I was growing up. It is a means of silencing and scaring young people into submission. With time, I began to realise that this was a way of, also, holding sway over our female sexuality. By using the word 'different', we were being surreptitiously classed as either being 'superior' or 'inferior'.
'Superior' to other people whose morals were of a lower standard. 'Inferior' because you had let down the 'Asian code of conduct'. We are neither. We are the same as everyone else. The women featured in the article describe how they exercise caution. There seems to be an element of trust between the sender and the receiver. This is sound advice to follow unless you really don't mind pictures of yourself going viral.
